Most writers don't become writers in their mid-40s. That's not to say there isn't somebody out there who picked up a pen or sat down at a keyboard later in life and started to write. I'm sure it happens.

My interest in writing traces itself back to my interest in being read stories as a child. My parents read to me often and I recall loving every moment of story time. Later, when I began to learn basic writing in school I remember lessons in creative writing where everyone in my class got to write stories. There were a lot of kids who loathed those lessons but not me. I found creating stories just as interesting as having them read to me years earlier.

Journalism was an obvious appeal, at least to me, and so I have been happily employed in the newspaper industry since 1992 after graduating from the journalism program at Algonquin College in Ottawa.

Given my profession I have some insights into the industry some of you may find interesting. I'm sure more than one blog post will be about the media as I have many to share.

Creative writing is also an interest of mine that I'll explore. There are so many interesting things happening in the publishing industry these days, some good, some bad. I hope to one day get more involved in the book publishing aspect
